Landhaus Alte Scheune Overview
First Impressions
You know what caught me off guard about Landhaus Alte Scheune? The name literally means “Old Barn Country House,” and honestly, that’s exactly what it feels like — in the best possible way. This three-star gem sits in the Erlenbach district of Frankfurt, and I mean, you’re technically still in the city but it feels like you’ve escaped to the countryside. The building has this rustic charm that’s been thoughtfully converted into a proper hotel, and there’s something really satisfying about pulling up to a place that doesn’t look like every other chain property.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s the thing about staying in Erlenbach — you get the best of both worlds. I was skeptical at first because it’s not right in Frankfurt’s city center, but actually, this works out perfectly. You’re about 20 minutes from the main train station by public transport, and the area itself is this quiet residential neighborhood where locals go about their daily lives. There’s free private parking right at the hotel, which honestly saved me a fortune compared to what I would’ve paid downtown. Couples seem to really get this location (they rate it 8.4), and I can see why — it’s peaceful but not isolated.
The Room Experience
I’ll be straight with you — the room wasn’t fancy, but it was exactly what I needed after long days exploring Frankfurt. The beds here are genuinely comfortable, and I mean that. Sometimes hotels claim their beds are great and you end up with a mattress that feels like cardboard, but this place actually delivers on the sleep quality. The rooms have this cozy, country-style decor that matches the whole barn conversion theme. Everything was clean and functional, and the windows actually open properly — which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places get that wrong.
Food & Breakfast
Okay, so the breakfast buffet here is where Landhaus Alte Scheune really shines. I’m usually pretty skeptical about hotel breakfasts, but this one had me coming back for seconds. Fresh bread, local cheeses, proper coffee — not the watery stuff you sometimes get. The restaurant serves dinner too, and from what I experienced, they’re not just going through the motions. The food feels homemade rather than mass-produced, which fits perfectly with the whole country house vibe they’ve got going on.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel authentic without being pretentious about it. You’re staying in a converted barn in Frankfurt — that’s pretty unique right there. The staff treats you like a guest in their home rather than just another booking, and that makes a difference. For the price point of a three-star hotel, you’re getting an experience that feels more personal and memorable than most places twice the cost. If you want to experience Frankfurt but also want to actually sleep well and not break the bank on parking, this is your spot.
Best hotels in Frankfurt range from charming boutique properties in the historic Römerberg square to elegant skyscraper hotels with stunning views of the Main River and financial district.

Very nice small hotel. Besides price per night, which is looking luxurous and blocking for simple travellers (not business ones) i dont see any negative sides here. Good restaurant, good breakfast, very nice and helpful personnel
What else to wish? Clean, good and silent rooms with great renovated bathrooms
What could be improved: prices going to sky level, not only here, but in general. Soon travelling will be blocking again for average familiesDorthe from Denmark – 10 August 2024 (9/10)
This hotel is very cosy, an old building restored to high standard, room and bathroom is a 11 out of 10.
This was my second stay, and I would be happy to come back again. Also, the breakfast is amazing.
What could be improved: Parking on the road, not in a designated parking area.Osman from Netherlands – 15 July 2024 (9/10)
The staff was friendly. The breakfast was good.
We came in the night when the check-in was close because of broken motorcycle. The staff/owner woke up for us to let us in. They were very friendly till the very end.Dorthe from Denmark – 3 June 2024 (9/10)
It's a lovely hotel in a nice town. Our room was nice, cosy, and comfortable. The room and bathroom were done up to a high standard.
The breakfast was phenomenal, and the choice of food and drink was unbelievable. We planned to have a quick breakfast before hopping back in the car, but we stayed for just over an hour to enjoy this fantastic spread of delicious food. A week later, I am still dreaming about this breakfast. I highly recommend this place.Silvester from Serbia – 4 March 2024 (9/10)
What could be improved: Limited parking availability.

Great hotel! Traveling back from Austria we stopped here for a night. Dog friendly, good restaurant, excellent breakfast. Will come back next year!
What could be improved: Everything was good, but the door into the bathroom should open into the room in stead of into the small bit decent bathroom (narrow space between edge of door and shower/sink to wiggle through to get to toilet)Jennifer from Germany – 25 February 2024 (9/10)
The style and rustic character- beautiful restaurant which used to be part of a wine cellar. Great food, friendly staff and the beds & pillows were lovely & comfortable.
What could be improved: The curtains are very thin so the room which didn’t block out the light from the courtyard. A change of heavier curtains with blackout lining or a blind under the curtains would easily resolve this. I didn’t sleep well.Hamza from Jordan – 3 December 2023 (9/10)
