Hotel am Berg Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel am Berg on Grethenweg, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical tourist trap. It’s tucked away in Sachsenhausen — honestly, one of Frankfurt’s most underrated neighborhoods — and the whole vibe feels refreshingly local. This three-star property doesn’t try to be something it’s not, which I actually found pretty refreshing after staying at some overly polished places in the city center. The hotel maintains a straightforward approach that appeals to travelers seeking authenticity over pretense.
The Sachsenhausen Advantage
Here’s what most visitors don’t realize about this location — you’re literally walking distance from the famous Apfelwein taverns that locals actually frequent. I mean, you could stumble back from a night out at Zum Gemalten Haus in about ten minutes. The neighborhood has this authentic Frankfurt feel that you just can’t get near the Hauptbahnhof, and couples seem to really get this (they rate the location 9.1, which honestly makes total sense). Plus, there’s parking right on site, which — trust me — is gold in Frankfurt. The riverside location offers easy access to cultural attractions and dining options.
What Your Room Actually Offers
The room I stayed in was clean and functional, nothing fancy but everything worked properly. You know what I appreciated? The windows actually opened (not always a given), and the heating was controllable — small things that matter when you’re trying to get decent sleep. The beds are comfortable enough, and there’s adequate storage space for a week-long stay. It’s the kind of place where you feel settled rather than like you’re camping out in a hotel. Practical design choices make extended stays particularly comfortable.
The Repeat Guest Factor
Something interesting I noticed — and the staff mentioned this too — they get way more repeat guests than most hotels in the area. After staying there, I sort of understand why. The service feels personal without being intrusive, and there’s this consistency that business travelers probably really value. The front desk actually remembers your name after the first day, which sounds small but makes a difference when you’re dealing with the usual travel stress. This attention to detail creates a welcoming atmosphere that encourages return visits.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
Look, this isn’t going to be the most Instagram-worthy hotel you’ll ever stay at, but it does something more valuable — it just works reliably well. The location gives you that authentic Frankfurt experience while still being practical for getting around the city. You’re close enough to walk to the river, the Städel Museum is right there, and when you want to head into the financial district or catch a train, it’s straightforward. The consistent quality and genuine hospitality explain why so many travelers choose to return.
Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Frankfurt through trusted local agencies that provide insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for experiencing the city’s unique blend of tradition and modernity.

What could be improved: I wish they provided a safebox, some glasses, coffee or tea, water, and a kettle at least.Denise from United States – 28 October 2024 (8/10)
Breakfast was delicious and filling. The dining room is very pleasant. I wish we could have eaten outside in the garden but it was raining.
What could be improved: The room could have been decorated a bit better but I understand the building is old, which is also part of its charm.Kajal from India – 20 September 2024 (8/10)
Vibes of 80's , beautiful and spacious place.
What could be improved: I would have preferred if they would provide water bottles and some snacks as compliment in room (cookies, chocolate) as a gesture.
There was no hot kettle or coffee maker.Maciej from Poland – 19 September 2024 (9/10)

its an easy walk from the South Station (Sudbahnhof) and the breakfast is great.
What could be improved: Just be prepared, if you have a heavy suitcase, it's a treak up the hill, then a few stairs (no elevator). But worth it for a nice view and quiet area in the center of FrankfurtTerence from United Kingdom – 1 July 2024 (9/10)
Nice big room in a beautiful old house. Close to train/u-bahn, great value for Frankfurt.
