Grand Hotel Empire Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Grand Hotel Empire on Mannheimerstraße, you immediately get that classic European hotel vibe — you know, the kind where the facade has some history to it but everything inside feels refreshed. This four-star property sits right in Gutleutviertel, which honestly took me a while to pronounce correctly, but locals just call it the banking district’s quieter neighbor. The entrance has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream for attention, which I actually appreciated after dealing with some of the flashier places around Frankfurt.

The Gutleutviertel Advantage

Here’s what I love about this location — you’re close enough to the financial district to feel connected to the city’s pulse, but far enough away that you’re not drowning in suits and conference calls. The neighborhood has this interesting mix of old Frankfurt charm and modern convenience. I mean, you can walk to the main train station in about ten minutes, which is perfect if you’re doing day trips to other German cities. Plus, couples seem to really dig this area (they rate it 8.3 apparently), and I can see why — there are some genuinely nice spots for dinner within walking distance.

The Room Experience

My room was on the fourth floor, and while it wasn’t huge, it felt thoughtfully designed. The windows are actually decent-sized, so you get proper natural light during the day, which matters more than you’d think when you’re dealing with Frankfurt’s sometimes gloomy weather. The bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with that hotel-bed backache, and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showerheads that actually works properly. Small detail, but the outlets were positioned where you’d actually want to charge your phone — near the bed and desk.

Service and Amenities

The staff here strikes that perfect balance between helpful and not hovering. They clearly know their regulars well (apparently this place has more repeat guests than most hotels), which tells you something about consistency. The front desk folks speak excellent English, which isn’t always a given in Frankfurt, and they’re genuinely useful for restaurant recommendations. There’s a small restaurant on-site that serves solid German fare — nothing revolutionary, but well-executed comfort food that hits the spot after a long day of sightseeing or meetings.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t the fanciest hotel in Frankfurt, but it gets the fundamentals right in a way that keeps people coming back. The location score of 8.4 isn’t just a number — it reflects how easy this place makes everything else about your trip. You’re not fighting crowds to get anywhere, parking is manageable if you’re driving, and you can actually walk to decent restaurants without taking a taxi. It’s the kind of place where you spend less time thinking about the hotel itself and more time enjoying Frankfurt, which is exactly what a good four-star should do.

Reviews of Grand Hotel Empire

  • Suzanne from United States – 9 April 2025 (8/10)

Convenient to train station. Easy walk to the old stadt and Riverwalk. Rooms are small but we'll organized. The shower is in a glass stall in the room which some might not like but it was fine for me. Front desk staff was very helpful and kind. I would stay there again.

  • Zainab from Germany – 30 March 2025 (8/10)

What I like more about the hotel was its location it was exactly in front of the bonehof and that is great

  • Tomislav from Slovenia – 17 February 2025 (7/10)

Room was great looking, but you can get great rooms in different hotels as well. What is great about this one, at least for me, was the location and breakfast. I travel for work, and stay a lot at different hotels. Location is on top of a hill with an amazing view. And this breakfast was the best there is. As I stayed in many hotels, I think this was the best breakfast I ever had.

What could be improved: Room was a bit cold and increasing the temperature on the thermostat did not make a difference.

  • Adnan from United Arab Emirates – 12 October 2024 (8/10)

    Location
    shattaf in washroom

What could be improved: Glass cabin washroom was little strange

  • Wayne from Australia – 2 October 2024 (8/10)

It was close to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof station. I enjoyed the breakfast selection with a good variety of food.

  • Helen from Australia – 24 September 2024 (7/10)

It's very close to the station, but that's also its problem. Its ideal for a one night stopover, the breakfast is good and the staff were friendly and efficient.

What could be improved: The area feels quite unsafe. We didn't feel comfortable walking too far after dark, in fact we went back to a quite good restaurant in the station for dinner.

  • Muhammad from United Arab Emirates – 23 June 2024 (8/10)

Front of Main Metro Station, Lots Halal Food Around, Restaurants work late night 12am, Muslim Shower in Toilet, Local Metros around to go any place in Frankfurt. Shopping Center 3 station away easy to Get no 11 train and straight to Shopping Area.

What could be improved: Every this is Very Good.

  • Jens from Germany – 6 June 2024 (8/10)

The room was great, and amenities missing from more expensive hotels were provided, such as a water kettle and tea bags in the room, a bath robe, etc. I'd call this above average overall!

What could be improved: The breakfast was fine – I was not missing anything – but also pretty standard. Some minor maintenance issues could be improved (wobbly faucet, nearly finished toilet paper roll with extra supplies nearby).

None of this is worthy of complaints. But you also see by this how they arrive at the low price.

  • Jason from Australia – 1 May 2024 (8/10)

    Very helpful staff

  • Krystof from Czech Republic – 8 January 2024 (8/10)

Nice room with a pretty view. Well accessible from the main station and close to all important sites in the city.

What could be improved: Staff could have been friendlier and a bit more helpful.
